Fly

Take a breath, no thinking home is such a prison,
If they're fools then leave them, they don't know what goes on
Icarus, and moths can't plan the way that we do
Icarus, and moths can't love the way that we can,
I found your life but we're holding hands, loosen fingers,
I want your body to fly.
Take a breath and run, our home is in horizon
I am somewhere in it scribbling my black cloud,
If you want a hand then look at both your own two,
If you want a hand then I can only show you,
Outstretched soul, beat the air
We both wanted a place for us to go,
We rise, we just learned to fly.
Because we all need to see another day,
When we can change our own skin we can swim outside the bubble.
I want to be forgotten from that place of insincerity,
We rise, we just learned to fly,
We just learned to fly

Underside of Heaven
07:01

I walk along the path between the seasons in the rain,
Everything froze together, blossomed out in white again,
I let my girl go, since she wasn't really mine,
I let my girl go, so I’ll be alone for a time,
And I have lost all sense of what I ought to know,
It’s disappeared down pathways hidden underneath the snow,
I dream of nothing, though I’m dreaming every night,
I've got my memories but I have lost my sight,
Well if she’s happy, then I am happy,
I am nobody, and nobody cares,
And as she fell down the dream well,
She was as listless as a cloud,
And she came out into a new sky
Where she would fall forever and never hit the ground.
I met the King of Hearts, he made me bend down low,
And as I came back up I shot him with my bow and arrow.
I didn't know that he was vulnerable to me,
Like a half glimpsed shadow stepping in between the trees,
And then I came back down, my eyes were burning red,
The past comes whispering but I couldn't quite hear what she said,
'Cos I've lived in photographs with the friends I used to love,
All lost behind me in the blue eyed skies above,
Well if she's happy, then I am happy,
I am nobody, and nobody cares,
And as she fell down the dream well,
She was as listless as a cloud,
And she came out into a new sky
Where she would fall forever and never hit the ground.
And I said wait for spring
Oh god,
Oh god,
And as she fell down the dream well,
She was as listless as a cloud,
And she came out into a new sky
Where she would fall forever and never hit the ground.

Nomad

Nomad came to a city, a city built upon the plain,
Came to the walls a-walking, with his feet in blistered pain,
'Oh City, why you stand here? Oh City please reply!'
She answered with a thousand voices, she answered with a thousand cries,
She said 'I used to be a wanderer like you, but then I grew.'
She said 'I used to be a wanderer like you.'
Nomad was bewildered, for he'd set out long ago,
The place was hot and rotting from the lack of rain or snow,
'Oh City, why'd you stay here? Did you fall down? Did you die?'
She answered with a thousand voices, she answered with a thousand cries,
She said 'I used to be a wanderer like you, but then I grew.'
She said 'I used to be a wanderer like you.'
'Like you,
Like you,
I used to be a traveler like you...'
Nomad stood there silent, a figure oh so ill at ease,
He turned and started walking, with his head into the breeze,
The city saw him leaving, she asked him with surprise
'Oh Nomad, why not stay here? Why must you fly on by?'
'I am a man' he said, 'forever passing through,
And though I'm lost I can never be like you.'
Nomad left the city, the city built upon the plain.
He walked into the ocean and was never seen again.

Gallows
05:47
|

Girl One was a mess,
She split her skin, bled through her dress,
Girl Two turned to ice,
We kissed and something in her died,
Girl Three, so naive,
She stuck it out, she didn't leave,
Until I wasted her time, chasing angels through her mind.
For one, I was wrong
In thinking I could be someone
Who'd made her feel alright, in the moments when our heads collided,
It's not that I don't care,
But if you pour your heart out to the empty air,
Then things will never change,
I never lit her match, set her aflame,
And now there's you, misguided partner in this crime,
And now there's you, misguided partner, you're wasting your time,
Because I am standing on the gallows that you built for me,
With your expectations of what I ought to be,
And I will hurl myself from them in a heartbeat, I will always hang,
Well I'd love to say I'm not fucking you around, but I am.
I am an actor on this stage,
I wear my face in a masquerade
And I pretend I understand the code in rhythms coming from her hands,
Her nails tap dance on my skin,
On the gap between my ribs,
But the heart that's underneath
Has been beating out of time for weeks,
And now there's you, misguided partner in this crime,
And now there's you, misguided partner, you're wasting your time,
Because I am standing on the gallows that you built for me,
With your expectations of what I ought to be,
And I will hurl myself from them in a heartbeat, I will always hang,
Well I'd love to say I'm not fucking you around, but I am.
She had her angels in the Nineties,
Just like the undead of our time,
And though the tropes are overused and shitty,
The problem is they never truly die,
And in the streets filled with afflicted,
There's not a soul who's living less than I,
And while my heart consistently escapes me,
The problem is it never truly dies.
